A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them. (NASB)
One of the most unique experiences I’ve had has been being around my grandkids when they were babies. I don’t have any biological kids so my first “up close and personal” exposure with babies came with my grandkids. One of the first lessons I learned is that if the baby is asleep, you let them sleep. The last thing you want to do is to scare them out of a sound sleep or get them “cranky”, because you could be in for a long time of rocking, changing diapers, feeding, and doing other things to calm the baby down…so both of you can get some rest.

Now take that experience of “provoking” a sleeping baby and multiply it by 100 when dealing with a fool (or someone who behaves foolishly). If you deliberately insult, harass, instigate, or incite a foolish person, their reaction can cause grief, confusion, heartache, and chaos not only to you, but others around them. In other words, you can get a lot more “drama” than you anticipated.
So listen to the advice of Proverbs 27:3 and don’t get him started.
