Like an earring of gold and a jewelry piece of fine gold, is a wise person who offers rebukes to a listening ear.
Parents are the primary instructors in the life of a child. Teachers may instruct our children in matters of math, history or science, but in matters of integrity, relationships, and personal conduct, parents have the greatest influence.
This scripture provides a picture of the value of providing wise advice and correction to our children…not just in gold, the most world’s most recognized precious metal for thousands of years, but in refined and crafted gold jewelry. Wisdom is invaluable in the life of a child.

But this assumes that the parents have the wisdom to give to their children. Some parents confuse “opinion” with godly wisdom. They can even express their opinions in an authoritative way, but if they are not built on a godly foundation, its like storm clouds and wind without the life-giving rain (Proverbs 25:14). You cannot give away what you don’t possess.
But James 1:5 sends us in the right direction…to the Lord Himself…the source of Wisdom. If we want to impart refined and crafted guidance to our children, we must, in humility receive it ourselves.
Do you have wisdom to give?
