Proverbs 21:30

There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.

Proverbs 16:9

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

To control something means to “exercise restraint, or direction over; to dominate or command”. On most days we begin our day thinking about what is going to happen and what we are going to do at a given time. We assume we have total control over the events in our lives…until the unexpected happens:

  • You receive a call from a doctor with bad news about your health
  • You learn that a family member or close friend dies
  • You are informed that your company no longer needs your services
  • You become the victim of a crime
  • You find out that your child has gotten themselves in a lot of trouble
  • You take your car into the shop for an oil change and find out that it needs a major repair

The list can go on and on. In all of these situations you learn that you cannot dominate or command the situation to instantly turn for the better . You cannot change the direction or exercise restraint over the situation. That’s when you realize that you can influence some events, but you don’t have total control in the events of life.

So what is the key to find peace and wisdom in these “unexpected” times? Its in learning that God is ultimately in control and taking the time to get to know Him personally. Once you learn:

  • He is faithful
  • How seriously He takes His Word
  • He has a deeper love for you that you can imagine
  • He has a long-term plan for your life
  • He sees the “big picture” of your life
  • His plans and purposes for your life sometimes unfold over years, and not minutes

You can begin to take comfort in Him and experience peace in the midst of your storm.

Have you begun to unlock the door leading to peace in your situation, or are you standing at the door knocking?
